Audiometric
Hearing Protection Screening/Testing
Audiometric testing is used for workers who are exposed to high noise levels that may lead to hearing loss. The test measures a person’s hearing thresholds at different sound frequencies (Hz).
When someone is exposed to noise over time, their thresholds rise, meaning it takes louder sound for them to hear it. In general, higher threshold values mean poorer hearing.
To begin, new workers should complete a baseline hearing test. Then, regular follow-up tests can be compared to that baseline.
With these comparisons, it becomes easier to see if any hearing damage is developing, so the employer can make changes to protect workers and improve the work environment.
Hearing Protection Fit Test
Xact Fit™ by HexArmor® is a reliable and efficient system for testing how well hearing protection works, no matter the brand or style of earplug.
It uses the Real Ear Attenuation at Threshold (REAT) method, where a person completes hearing tests both with and without their hearing protection in place. These tests measure the quietest sound the person can hear in each situation.
The difference between the two results is called the Personal Attenuation Rating (PAR). This number shows how much sound protection the earplug is actually providing based on how it fits the individual.
Testing can be done at our facility, or we can come to your work site.
Standards Compliance:
- CSA Standard Z1007-16 CCOHS: Noise – Hearing Conservation Program
- Alberta OH&S Part 16 Change highlights: Noise exposure – Part 16 in the OHS Code (alberta.ca)
- OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95
Test Method: Real Ear Attenuation at Threshold (REAT)
- Can be conducted with any earplug
- Total test time less than one minute
- Test frequency range: 200 – 800 Hz
In summary, we provide hearing tests to track noise exposure and protect long-term hearing health. By establishing a baseline and comparing results over time, changes can be identified early. Therefore, workers and employers can take steps to prevent further hearing loss and improve workplace safety.
Respirators/Masks
Mask/Respirator Fit Testing
Today’s environment means Quantitative Fit Tests can make the difference between safe and at-risk exposures to Chemical, Biological, and Radiological hazards – in gas, vapor or particulate form. Getting workers fitted fast and back on the job safely is mission-critical and there’s no time for chance and uncertainty.
Masks Supported
We can provide on site or inhouse testing with the AccuFit9000 for the following Full Mask and Half Mask
- Scott AV3000 – Full Mask
- North 7700 – Half Mask
- 3M – Half Mask
In summary, we offer mask fit testing to ensure workers receive the proper level of breathing protection. Proper fit helps reduce exposure to harmful gases, vapors, and airborne particles. As a result, workers can perform their jobs more safely and with greater confidence.
