Energy Safety Canada Fall Protection Class

Description:
Energy Safety Canada Fall Protection training helps prevent injuries caused by falls from height. Falls are a common cause of serious workplace incidents.

The course follows Canadian Standards Association Z259 guidelines. It teaches workers how to plan, use, and care for fall protection systems. In addition, the course includes both theory and hands-on practice.

Participants inspect, fit, adjust, and connect fall protection equipment during training activities.

Jurisdiction Considerations:

  • If working in Newfoundland and Labrador, workers must complete a two-day Workplace NL training course.
  • If working in Ontario on construction projects, workers must take the Ontario Working at Heights training. The ESC Fall Protection course does not replace that requirement.
  • Employers must still determine if a worker is considered a competent person for specific tasks.

Duration:
This course includes 6.5 hours of teaching time.

Upon Completion:
A minimum exam score of 70 percent is required. Successful participants receive a Certificate of Completion valid for three years.

Course Content Includes:

  • The importance of fall protection
  • Roles and responsibilities under legislation
  • Identifying and assessing fall hazards
  • Hierarchy of controls and safe work procedures
  • Types of fall arrest systems and components
  • Use, care, inspection, and storage of equipment
  • Understanding fall forces and clearance
  • Effects of a fall and rescue planning

Notes:

  • Participants must arrive on time and attend all instruction.
  • The course may extend beyond 4:30 pm.
  • Participants must select and demonstrate the correct fall protection equipment for various scenarios.
  • They must also show how to perform pre-use equipment inspections.
  • The instructor will demonstrate proper harness donning and doffing. Participants must observe and practice these steps.
